February has long been a month of romance, a fact made even more famously relevant by the murky myth of St. Valentine. According to one legend, this priest, who served in Rome during the third century, was ordered to be put to death by Emperor Claudius H after Valentine was found to have violated a royal decree outlawing marriages for young men - Claudius H's crop of potential soldiers - by performing secret marriages for countless lovers. According to another legend, Valentine actually wrote a letter to a young girl with whom he had fallen in love, while he was in confinement, signing it with the now universally familiar expression: "From your Valentine!"
