The federal government has decided to constitute an
institution for higher studies which has been named as the Standard
for Higher Education Commission (SHEC).

According to sources, SHEC will function in place of the Higher
Education Commission (HEC).

The Ministry of Finance has also withheld the HEC’s last quarter’s
grant of Rs. 7.7 billion of the current fiscal year.

HEC officials said that the finance ministry was requested to release
this grant but declining the plea, the ministry put off this matter
till the final decision on the government’s devolution plan.

The fourth grant is meant to meet the regular expenses of universities
working under the HEC’s education plans and employee salaries,
officials said further.
