Govt. imposed GST on import of Artificial Limbs and Components

Through The Presidential Ordinance dated 15th March 2011, the govt. has abolished the S.R.O.# 549(1)/08 providing exemption from levy of Sales Tax on import of Artificial Limbs and Component Parts besides
Orthopedic Soft Goods including Braces, Splints & supports.

Following are the custom Tariff Nos. of these items:

9021.3900 Artificial Limbs and component parts
9021.1000 Braces, Splints and Supports, etc.
The Previous Customs charges on imports were:

Duty: 5%

Sales Tax: Nil
Income Tax: 1%
FED: 1%
By abolishing the S.R.O. 549(1)/08 the govt has imposed following
Customs charges on import of these items:

Duty: 5%

Sales Tax: 17%
Additional Sales Tax: 2%
Income Tax: 5%
FED: around 1 to 2% (correct figure is not in my knowledge)
When an importer have to pay input tax (sales tax on import) he has
also charge output tax at time of sales. Hence the cost will
considerably increase and the burden will be on the end user means
Persons With Disabilities.
