Will it be July the 8th? Bookies refuse to take any bets for a Royal wedding in this month as planning begins

  • Couple became betrothed (engaged) in Kenya last month
  • William asked Kate's father for her hand
  • She will formally be called Catherine
  • The Royal wedding will be in spring or summer
  • Kate and William will live in north Wales once married

Prince William and his bride-to-be, Kate Middleton, will sit down with royal advisers today to begin planning their wedding day with July 8 firming as the most likely date.

Bookies have stopped taking bets on any date in July after sources hinted a Royal wedding during the month was one of the strongest possibilities.

Yesterday’s long-awaited announcement of their engagement came after nine years of fevered speculation and spanned at least one very public – and for Kate at least very painful – break-up.

For a month after William proposed to Kate, offering her the same engagement ring worn by his late mother Diana, the only other person in the know was Kate’s father Michael, whose permission William went on to seek.

An official date for the wedding has yet to set but it will take place in either spring or summer next year. A St James's Palace spokesman stressed that the couple would be very hands-on and involved in organising the details of the event.

Of the other likely dates, April 9 is the sixth anniversary of Charles and Camilla’s wedding. In June, the 18th or 25th have been suggested, while William could combine the celebrations with his 29th birthday on June 21.

Sources hint that July is one of the strongest possibilities. July 29 - the 30th anniversary of Charles and Diana’s wedding - could be a possibility.

It is also understood Royal aides have made 'discreet overtures' to senior staff at Westminster Abbey about the dates of August 12 or 13.
