Retired Generals

It is good that a positive trend among ex-servicemen has started to organize themselves in various organizations like societies and associations. First heard of associations were Veterans Association Lahore and Veterans Association Peshawar. These associations would hold their annual meetings where some high dignitaries were invited. Such meetings ended over a diner and in receipt of some donation in cash from the guest dignitary. Mostly their purpose was to hold a get to gather for officers residing in Lahore and Peshawar. They did not work to help ex-servicemen from the ranks. Later on Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) was formed which has its members spread all over Pakistan. Majority of its members are JCOs, NCOs and other ranks from all services like army, air force and navy. The society works for promoting welfare of its members at district and tehsil levels. During lawyers' movement, a new organization with the name of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (PESA) emerged. Members of this group first called themselves as 'ex-servicemen'. After some time they changed its name as ex-servicemen society. Now it is renamed as Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association. Mostly its members are few retired generals and brigadiers who during past military governments were the main characters to conspire against democratic governments and strengthen military rule in the country. When in power they made tremendous material gains not only for themselves but for their futures generations. Some people call this group as retired generals association while some others name it as 'old goats association'. From these different associations and societies one thing is obvious that retired military generals lack discipline, they often boast off. They still desire to show them as indispensable figures by way of forming various associations. They are all mediocre in their IQ and do not understand problems of common man nor do they have ability to solve them except making political statements and holding press conferences. At the best they could be better courtiers and admirers of dictators. They are responsible to spoil institutions including army and dismantling them. They are no friends of common man. They are responsible for aiding military dictators for violation of constitution under which they took oath for remaining loyal to the democratically elected president. Their past performance is a solid proof for this. If they want to do something better for ex-servicemen and civil society, they first should gather and unite all ex-servicemen at one platform. Otherwise they should avoid misusing the name of ex-servicemen of lower ranks for their own interests. They can't make the people fool. It is better they should keep quite otherwise it is possibility of their coming into the mouth of accountability.
